City Landscape illustrates a simple city scene but does so by personifying the normally cold, gray structures. In my work I often explore the relationship between media and illusion, a dialogue between the viewer’s knowledge of an object and the materials used to represent it. Similarly the buildings in City Landscape as organic forms create a tension with our knowledge of them as static objects. The choice of lines and mark making undermines even the most basic principles of structure, yet these buildings surge out of the ground defiantly, each clamoring for the sky.
