i've managed to collect a fair number of tools over the last couple years. A few months back a friend gave me a planer, one of the reasons i tore out the floor and expanded the wood-shop in december. I got to use the tool all of two days before the bearing locked up with rust and stopped the whole machine. lovely.

my friend ordered new bearings and the schematics so we could replace the part but half the nuts and bolts wouldnt budge, and with the bearing rusted onto the main shaft, we made sporadic progress at best. after several failed attempts, even calling the factory to check if we were doing it right we still coudlnt even take the planer apart and finally gave up. since then I've had 300 lbs of useless steel cluttering up the center of the studio.

the other day we made one last attempt. after 3 hours of hammering away the main shaft slid out, with the bearings still frozen in place. a relief to finally get at the problem. still, at this rate i wont have the planer up and running until sometime next year.

UPDATE: got everything apart and looks like the main shaft of the planer has a crack in it, along with other problems. Its going to be about 1000 dollars for the parts alone. Looks like I wasted a lot of time and energy fighting with a bunch of scrap metal. looking for a planer again.
